OpenSSH is a FREE version of the SSH connectivity tools. For many users of telnet, rlogin, and ftp, they may not realize that most of the time their password is transmitted across the Internet unencrypted. With OpenSSH, it encrypts all traffic (including passwords) to effectively eliminate eavesdropping, connection hijacking, and other attacks. Besides that, OpenSSH provides secure tunneling capabilities and several authentication methods, and supports all SSH protocol versions.
To setup and enable OpenSSH for SUSE/OpenSUSE, here are some simple steps to take:
- Navigate to Yast
- Select install software
- From within the search box type openssh and choose install
- Now get back to yast and go to security and users
- Select firewall and select allowed services
- From the services to allow, choose the secured shell server (refer to the above picture)
Happy Trying!
